Use of Microsatellite Polymorphisms in Ovar-DRB1 Gene for Identifying Genetic Resistance in Fat-Tailed Ghezel Sheep to Gastrointestinal Nematodes

چکیده مقاله:
This study was designed to identify genetically resistant animals to gastrointestinal nematode (GIN) infections using microsatellite polymorphisms of Ovar-DRB1 gene in Iranian Ghezel sheep breed lambs. In the present study 120 male Ghezel lambs were at 4 to 6 months of age randomly selected from six different sheep flocks in East Azerbaijan province (n=20 per flock). These lambs were naturally infected with GINs, and individual fecal samples were collected twice with a week interval to evaluate fecal egg counts (FEC). Blood samples were also collected for DNA isolation and PCR was performed to amplify the second exon and microsatellites within the second intron of the Ovar-DRB1 gene. The data were analyzed using a mixed modelof SAS software. The present study identified 24 genotypes and 20 alleles on Ovar-DRB1 gene. Results indicated that the presence of 510 bp (base pair) allele (called allele F) in both homozygote and heterozygote animals had a strong association (P

Fecal egg counts for gastrointestinal nematodes are associated with a polymorphism in the MHC-DRB1 gene in the Iranian Ghezel sheep breed
Genetic variation among sheep breeds in resistance to gastrointestinal nematodes (GIN) has been demonstrated in several production environments. Relationships between the ovine major histocompatibility complex and resistance to GIN have been studied, but few studies have systematically examined this issue in less-developed and semi-arid regions. The aim of the current study was to explore assoc...
متن کاملExon 2 Ovar-DRB1 gene polymorphism in the Iranian Sangsari sheep
The major histocompatibility complex (MHC) plays a central role in the control of disease resistance and immune response. Extensive genetic diversity in MHC genes provides a valuable source for genetic improvement, via selection, in many domestic animals. Exon 2 of the class II MHC, termed Ovar-DRB1 in domestic sheep (Ovis aries), has been suggested as important disease resistance and immune re...

Several studies have focused on polymorphisms of major histocompatibility complex (MHC) in sheep, Ovar-MHC. This molecule plays a pivotal role in antigen presentation for eliciting immune responses against invading pathogens. The best-characterized genetic control of disease resistance and immune response in animals is associated with MHC. Numerous molecular genetic investigations have been und...
متن کاملMicrosatellite Polymorphism in DRB2 Gene and its Relation to Haemonchus Contortus Parasites Fecal Egg Count in Iranian Ghezel Sheep
Gastrointestinal parasites are one of the main sources of economic decline in sheep production around the world. Resistant sheep do not completely reject the disease; they only harbor fewer parasites than susceptible sheep and therefore have a lower fecal egg count. The present research was designed to evaluate microsatellite polymorphism in intron 5 of DRB2 gene and its correlation with H. con...
متن کاملPharmacokinetics of tetracycline hydrochloride in fat-tailed sheep
Tetracycline may be used to treat several types of bacterial diseases in ruminants. In addition, tetracycline is added to food to promote the growth. There are few reports on the pharmacokinetics of tetracycline in sheep. Therefore, the objective of this study was to examine the pharmacokinetic characteristics of the drug in sheep. Ten apparently healthy mixed-breed sheep were administered 20 m...
